A 16 channel Mackie will cost about $800.

A Mackie 1642 - 16 channel board can be got for $600 or less, but 16 channels in karaoke isn't really necessary.  The 1604 which is designed primarily for live bands & recording will run about $800 or a little less in some places.  For most karaoke applications the CFX12, DFX 12, 1402 or 1202 will do & still sound as good.

Has anybody here tried this  mixer  ?

I've played with it.  Great little board for home recording projects and home systems.

I have the Alesis multimix 6fx and am quite happy with it

I'm sorry but the pots and faders on anything Behringer are not even close to the the componets used on a Mackie or Yamaha.

Slide a fader and twist a knob on the 2 in the store and you feel an instand difference.

True !

Take a test drive in a LEXUS and then one in a Hyundai - BIG difference too
Both will get you where you want to go for miles and miles

Some can justify spending $600 for a mixer - Some just don't NEED IT

I own both Mackie and Behringer boards and am very happy with both.
One thing to keep an eye out for, is as a lot of music stores are switching from carrying the Euro to the Xenyx series, you can find some great deals on the Euro series right now. Now granted, I have to give the Mackie an edge as far as performance, especially if you intent to possibly use it for home studio use. If your intention is strictly for Karaoke, I say the Behringer is a great investment at a great price. But as others have commented, go to a store and try out both. Our opinions here vary from person to person, but in the end, it is you who will end up having to use it. So take the time to do some homework and check out your options. While some of the mixers mentioned are more than you would ever use in a Karaoke situation, think long term, which one is going to be able to meet your future needs, not just your immediate necessity.
