I should know this but I don't.  I suspect my monitor may not be showing colors in their accurate hues.  How can I double check this?

Turn the color all the way down .... Should be black/white or proper gray scale...

Yup  You got red blue green which in right poportions (color balance)  make up white..  If you are missing a color you get diiferent off-shades.... Its the same as white balance in color cameras...

It may not be all as easy as that.  If you are comparing a photo to a scan of the photo on monitor,  even a properly working monitor, they may not be the same.
