James,
Sounds like more to me they are wanting an "Invoice." I've done several parties for our Goodyear plant here in Union City. They never needed a contract but I did have to give them and invoice so they could get a check properly handled through their book keeping.
Other than that I have never used a contract. I'm sorta old fashion. Handshake will do. Had a guy ask me once how he could know for sure that I would show up. I told him the same way I know that I'm going to get paid when I get there. He smiled, shook my hand and all was and went well.

Laura,
Quote: It reminds me of the song "Lido Shuffle" by Boz Scaggs, except your name has a "t" instead of a "d". Gee, like I've never heard that before..... LMAO I don't even have that song in my book....I wonder why.... Quote: Is that where you got the name--or is it actually your name?
No, that is not where I got my name. It's a nickname that my parents gave me and it's what I go by everyday. It's a lot shorter than my given legal name, just like some other names like: Phillip - Phil, Jonathan - Jon, etc.....

Hmmm sounds like there was a performance clause in there. Of course, you are in Washington and contract/torte laws differ from state to state and, in some cases from borrough/county/parish to borrough/county/parish. Therefore, some things that are presented/discussed may be true for one location but not another.

Oh. Whoops! Sorry--I didn't mean to repeat something you've heard millions of times before!

When you go to court everything is not always cut and dry. The judge can rule for or against anyone at anytime for any reason. A contract only guarantees one thing....... You did have a contract. LMAO
It can not guarantee a favorable outcome everytime. :O

Today I talked with the folks from the company that I'm doing the party for. Apparently someone in the HR offices thought I was being paid too much, and she wants to hire a friend of hers for 65 bucks. I tell the folks, hey not a problem, if you decide you want to cancel me, like it says, I need 7 days advance notice. But when you go back to the office tell the lady, yes you may get someone cheaper, but you also run the risk of hiring a total piece of crap performer. Now does she want to take responsibility of hiring someone that sucks and ruining everyones party? Keep in mind, I have an hour+drive there and an hour+drive home, plus my setup and breakdown time. Adding that on to the actual show time, you folks are actually getting a heck of a deal. You folks have been to my show, you know it's on the up and up. I think my price is very fair.
The folks are like, no problem, we still want you, we think your price is more than fair.
End of story.
So yeah contracts aren't necessary, handshakes are good, but the ole Maninblack putting the fear of god in folks seems to be my best bet so far...
