Lonnie, the DCM1500 was already sold, but the DCM600 and another DCM2500 are still available. The Carvin PM-5B is a spot monitor rated at 125 watts, so the DCM600 would be a good match for it.  I have two PM-5Bs.  Since I don't want to spend so much money on the monitor, my best bet would be to buy the DCM600 so that I can continue using the PM-5Bs as spot monitors.  They did work well with the Carvin PA1200C.

UPS delivered the NX55P monitors today.  I tested them using the built-in mixer and a CD player.  These speakers are rather bright sounding and lacking in bass.  I miss the Carvin 1584s.  I know that they are large but being 3-way, they delivered a much fuller sound.  I used them without having a subwoofer and they can really produce the lows.  I am somewhat disappointed with the Yorkies, but I guess that I shouldn't expect too much from a speaker with only a 12-in woofer.  I should have bought the Carvin PM15A which has a 15-in woofer and, with Carvin's 14-day return policy, I could have tested them without commiting a lot of money.

Anyway, the NX55Ps are impressive looking speakers and appear to be built well.  I was able to put them on the stands all by myself.  The built-in mixer is a nice feature, but the mic input is pretty useless because the volume is too low.

I will test the speakers with the CFX12 and my other gears which are now mounted in an SKB 106DJ Shuttle.  I suspect that I will get a much fuller sound once I hook up the CFX12 to the speakers.

I definitely need a sub and will go with the Carvin TRX118B.  I don't think I'll go wrong with their sub, especially since I was pretty happy with the PA1200C and the 1584s.  I had to get rid of them because the speakers were too big and heavy.  I now realize that selling them was a mistake.  Those of you who haven't listened to a 1584, especially the tri-amped 1584, are missing out if you don't consider them when buying a speaker.  Sure, the 1584 is big and does not have the high-tech look, but it is a great sounding speaker.  Besides, it is made in the U.S.A.  A lot of the stuff out there are made in China.  I went to GC today to check out their subs and most of their gear are made in China and the prices are outrageous.

With any 12" speaker a subwoofer should be used to get the full sound.  It always best to input your mics into you mixing board then output to the speakers.  The mixing board on the speakers would be mostly used to mix a voice with a guitar where both sounds are being mixed together.  If you insert your player into your mixing board then to speaker and your mics directly into the speaker, you will not get a true mix.

Good point, Timberlea.  That's why I just went out and bought the TRX118B from a local Carvin store.  I got a good deal for it.  I was offered a TRX218B, a floor model, for only $360, but it's too big and heavy for me.

I also bought from the same guy who sold me the DCM2500, a brand new Carvin UX16-MC wireless mike (retail $229.99) for only $100 and a used Carvin XC3000 crossover (retail $269.99) for only $50.

I will be testing my brand new system tomorrow.  At this point, I have the following toys (er stuff):
1. SKB 106DJ Shuttle
2. BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer
3. TC Electronics M300 Effects
4. DBX 266XL Compressor/Limiter
5. Mackie CFX12
6. Belkin 20-Amp 10 Outlet Rack Mount Surge (Thanks for the tip, Lonnie!!!)
7. Carvin XC3000 2/3 way electronic crossover
8. Two Yorkville NX55P monitor
9. One Carvin TRX118B sub
10. DCM2500
11. Two Carvin PM-5B monitors (still needing an amp)

I will be adding a CD player that will play VCD, CDG, Neo-G... you get the picture.  I have a cheap unit that plays VCD and CDG but I'm not really happy with it.  The bulk of my music and karaoke will run off the laptop and the external drives.

By the way, I just found out from Carvin that they will be coming out with a 10-in powered monitor in the near future.  I'm sure that it will be priced reasonably and it will sound great.  One thing about Carvin is that they don't lie about the rating of their gear.

Not to be rude, but If you heard my subs a SPL of 98db would not be really disappointing.

I would have steered you clear of any Carvin gear as you could have gotten much better quality equipment buying Peavey gear. Or I would have taken the Behringer gear over Carvin actually.

I wouldn't have.  Carvin amps I would put up against Peavey or QSC anyday.  Their subs kick (@$%&#!) & their speakers sound good.

Yep, Peavey makes a few really great products, and they also make some flopps.....I own 3 Peavey CS800S amps and wouldn't trade them for anyone's amps.....They are absolutely bulletproof and very musical, but Peavey makes some real flopps too.....Every maker makes a few flopps no matter who they are.....The trick is to audition each no matter who makes it and then to do a little research before you buy.

Liquiddye, you are most definitely not being rude.  I have posted my questions here to learn from those who are more experienced than me.

I have spent the past two days testing my new setup and so far I am very pleased with the sound.  I ended up using the Carvin XC3000 crossover because it gives me more control over the sound.  I found out that the built-in mixer of the Yorkville NX55P does not work well, and I needed a mixer to really bring it to life.  The CFX12 is a very good mixer and I am so happy with it also.

I am now getting a much fuller sound with the Yorkville NX55Ps working in conjunction with the Carvin TRX118B. The NX55Ps produce really crisp mids and highs.  I really love these little speakers.  They are so loud that I don't even have to push them hard.

The TRX118B has been able to keep up with the NX55Ps.  The sub produces massive lows and thump, thanks to the 1700 bridged watts from the DCM2500.

By the way, Carvin has a 10-day return policy and I still have 5 days to decide if I want to keep the TRX118B. I was actually looking into the Yorkville LS608, but decided to go with Carvin because of their return policy and the TRX118B was only $400 out the door. I wanted to hear the LS608 first but I couldn't find a local dealer for it.  I could probably get the LS608 for $500 out the door, so I am also thinking about it at this time.

Carvin actually makes the Club series, TRX series, and TCS which is marketed under that brand.  The TRX  is their concert series and built better than the Club series.  The TCS is their touring series and their speakers are heavier and more expensive.  Here is the link to their website: http://www.tcsaudio.com/products.html

Have you listened to the Carvin speakers, especially their TRX series? How were you able to conclude that the Carvins do not measure up to the other brands?  I have heard the TRX series and they actually sound great.
