I was too young in the 70s to remember how people interacted with each other. I'm sure the movie Hair didn't totally reflect people's attitudes toward each other but I learned some things I can take with me.

The characters had respect for each other and were able to say what they thought needed to be said. Remember that this was pre-PC. There was actually a lot of social animosity in that time but the movie was mostly set in New York. The characters were actually pretty civil to each other.

One of my favorite scenes is when George was talking to the head butler or whoever that was. They were actually having an argument but the attitudes between them where still respectful to a point. George had something he felt took priority over the rules we are all taut. He listened to the penguin and then set the subject aside to do what he felt necessary. Was he wrong? Maybe, but it made for a good scene.

Are there other movies that reflect a time period where people could disagree but still respect each other? I'd like to see them.

Yes Chuck, any of the old Sherlock Holmes pictures where he faced his arch-nemesis, Dr. Moriarty.  They were both genuises in the forces of good and evil respectively, but they had a profound admiration for each others' abilities.

I understand your point however; people today cannot merely opine about something--theirs has to be the "correct" (i.e., only) point and/or solution and the "winning" one it seems.  Blame it on too much focus on sports these days I suppose--don't know really know the conditions behind it.

Sherlock Holmes, one of my favorites.

I wonder how much people's tempers have changed since 1991. I know it was only 15 years ago but I remember so little about my life.
