After the file is done, you can go to:
(From edit view)
*File
*Batch File Converter
*Resample (2nd tab on bottom)
*Make sure you click the "Convert Sample Type" box
Oh, and I guess you'd have to make sure you had the entire vocal file highlighted as well.
I dunno, try it maybe....

Right under that is a "Change Destination Format" button.
From there, you can choose 48.
I'd think it would be easy somehow to preset it so it will stay that way. ??

When you first open "Batch File Converter" there is a :
"Open Raw PCM as:" button......
Maybe you can set that to open the music files to match what the heck ever the vocal is being saved at?
Gosh, I really dunno what I'm talking about....... I'm just looking at CEP and babbling away. LOL
I need a Budweiser I think.

I use Audiograbber, and grab the tracks to cdg + compressed file (usuallly, cause I practice in my comp as well) ... then just insert it like that into CEP. (from a folder)
I hope I just used the quote thingy correctly...never tried it before.
I haven't tried putting my tracks in CEP from a CDG...I just right click on on the mp3 and choose "open with <Cool Edit Pro 2.1>. I'm wondering if I imported it at 48000 instead of 44100, if it the pitch and tempo would be off. I tried coverting it with it already in CEP and it does raise the pitch and tempo.
Ollie...what would be the difference in importing that way vs. converting it in CEP? I think that's what's confusing me.
I agree with you Charmin...that answer is a non answer and a ruse to upgrade to a more expensive card.

ok lets recap Red You can go under edit view and change the backing to 48 sample rate and it is in sync with the vocal right? But it changes the tempo so you cant use it to record? So if we get the backing at 48 and its the right tempo we are good to go right?

Just....... at the top of my post here, click where it says "quote". Then a box pops up, move your cursor underneath all the quote stuff and type what you want. Or, you can delete part of it.... just don't delete the begin quote and end quote captions.
Or, when you click reply, go highlight & copy something someone else said (from below) paste it in your reply box, highlight it all, and up above click "quote"... that puts it in a quote box too.
WAY off topic Charmin. :D

Redhead1 @ Thu Aug 10, 2006 3:45 am wrote: EDIT: Okay...I'll try to explain my problem again more coherently so that someone may actually be able to help me.
My husband just installed a new sound card on our computer last night, "Sound Blaster Live," and I tried recording today with CEP, which I've been using. When I play back my recording, the tempo of my vocals is noticeably faster than the backing (especially more noticeable to me after about a minute into the song). The vocal track is not recording at the tempo it should be for some reason and I don't know if there's a setting either on CEP or on Sound Blaster Live that needs to be changed to make them compatible. I never had this problem until after this new sound card was installed. Any thoughts on what's going on?
This happens to me also. It didnt used to until I upgraded my AMD computer to a poxy celeron. NEVER USE CELERON MACHINES IF YOU ARE INTO MUSIC!!!!
It does seem to help if you lock the tracks that way it doesnt seem to drift out of sync as much when you do any editing in the edit window.
But I have been known to cut up my vocal track so as I can shift some of the bad drifty bits

Guess what...I think the problem is solved, but it's gonna add more time to the process. Go to OPTIONS < Settings < Multitrack tab < Correct for Drift in Recording
I checked the box and recorded something. As soon as you hit the "off" button it automatically runs the correct drift process (takes about 30 seconds for an entire song). I played it back and it's all in sync.

I have always just right clicked on the track concerned in multi and selected lock I think it does the same thing and does it on the fly but will try your suggestion

Here's the CEP Help that mentions Sound Blaster Live and how to correct it:
"Correct for Drift in Recordings
If this box is checked, Cool Edit Pro will look at the sync between the “master” audio playback device (generally, the first “Out” device listed in the session – the one on Track 1) and the record device of the waveform being recorded. If the true sample rates on the cards differ enough that the recording would have drifted out of sync with the original if both were played back at exactly the same sample rate, then the recording is corrected by resampling to make it the proper length. This option only works with new record tracks, not with recording on top of existing waveforms, or punch-ins.
On sound cards that support sample accurate devices (i.e., synchronized device starting, and all devices keyed off of the same clock) you don’t need to check this box. This option allows for some measure of near sample-accurate synchronization across different sound cards, or when using with a single sound card that doesn’t use the same clock for playback and recording (such as the Sound Blaster Live! card)."

I appreciate all that pestering!! It's been a long time since I've troubleshooted anything and there's some satisfaction in all of it! Of course, couldn't have done it with all the help I've had here. Nothing like a good problem to force me to learn more about the software, too! Okay...so I'm trying to find the "good" in all this!!
Thanks so much!!!

I'll have to try it...sounds easier than waiting for the drift correction to run every take in a session.

Ok I downloaded CEP
Here is what I would try
FILE> New Session> Choose 48000... click ok
INSERT> Wav from File.....Browse to file..choose file type ... Import
It loads into track and automatically upsamples to 48k
And under settings multitrack I would check Correct For Drift in Recordings

In a prior post I mentioned that I had to use the function, "Correct for Drift in Recordings" to sync up my backing and vocal tracks. Wasn't happy with that fix because it adds more time to the recording process. Because of Ollie's suggestion that I first convert my mp3 file to a wav file and then import with a sample rate of 48000 and change the bit resolution to 32, I find that the tracks sync up just fine now and I don't even need to use the drift correction function. Very easy solution...much easier than letting that "correct for drift" function run every time I record a vocal. I like to use the computer for practice, too, so it would have gotten annoying because it takes around 30 sec. to run.
Hope this thread helps someone else who encounters this same problem down the road.
Thanks for the help!!
