The karaoke side of me:
I'm a singer, have a home karaoke system, and help my KJ friend with technical stuff since I'm an engineer. I make his book, too -- he doesn't even own a computer and I have three. When I met him, his (now Ex) wife did the book. Did sound and lighting engineer stuff for extra cash while in college, but my knowlege of equipment is quite dated.
How I got into karaoke: Got divorced in '99. Never did karaoke before that -- wife just wasn't into it, and I didn't really think I was either though I'd sung in choir when I was younger. First gal I got semi-serious with after the divorce was a karaoke junkie. We'd go out and she and her friends would badger me to sing. Finally, I decided I'd "show her". Did Jimmy Buffett's "Lets Get Drunk (and screw)" like I was really drunk. Thought I'd embarrass her and that would be the end of it. How wrong I was. They all loved it. But I discovered I kinda liked it too. After I broke up with her, I also discovered that karaoke was a good place to meet people (read women), many of whom would not otherwise "hang out" in bars but will come to karaoke, and that music is a good ice-breaker. So now I was a karaoke junkie, too.
I do lots of different stuff. Country and rock. Mostly older, but some newer. My newest song is "Get Drunk and Be Somebody" by Toby Keith, but I change the words in the last verse to "lets get drunk and sing karaoke." My "signature song" is "Kev's Courtin' Song" by Kevin "Bloody" Wilson (my Australian accent wouldn't fool many, but it's passable for karaoke). It's tongue-in-cheek crude (less so by Australian standards), but where I sing they don't allow kids. My girlfriend's signature song (though her daughter is "stealing" it) is Connie Vannett's "The Pussycat Song". So I guess we're made for each other. Went so far as to do a custom CDG of a song. Took the Sound Choice version of "The Thunder Rolls", spliced in the music from the second verse as the third "lost" verse Garth only sings in concerts, and re-did all the words to include that verse. Some day will get around to doing the same with Buffett's "Margaritaville".
Made friends with one of the KJ's along the way, and have stuck with his show though I do "cheat" on him some. Even got him a gig at another bar.
Five weeks ago, I proposed in song to my girlfriend of 2+ years at karaoke -- I met her where I proposed. I changed the words of Blood, Sweat, and Tears' "You've Made Me So Very Happy". Her first reaction was "deer in the headlights" -- I'd successfully pulled off the surprise even though her daughter, her sister, the bartender, and the KJ were all in on it. But she then put the ring on without hesitation and said "hell yes" over the PA. KJ started playing "Going to the Chapel" and the bartender brought out the champaign.
Have done karaoke on vacation in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles; Cairnes, Australia; and London, England. Couldn't find a karaoke place in Turkey.
Non-karaoke side:

I don't chat, don't IM, usually answer private messages but might take a while to do so.
