Awhile back there was a thread on this i think---but im having a JVC single tray not reading discs--some burns and some store bout discs. Discs are only normal wear and tear--not trashed out. Possibly the machine needs adjustment/calibartion from being way OVERUSED? Have tried cleaning disc and blowing out. But is seems to be progessivly more noticable. ANy ideas?

Probably just needs some servicing. Mine is starting to do the same thing. It runs 7 nights in a smoke filled room.

There is a natural air flow due to heat which sucks in smoke. A nicotene film gradually builds up on the optics. The first sign is a deteriation in audio quality which is hard to detect by the operator because it is gradual over a period of time. When it reaches the symptons described above I can guarantee you there is a loss of audio quality.
I can give a detailed procedure in servicing which isnt that hard The only critical part is not putting too much pressure on the eye. It is mounted with a spring assembly and karaoke cd palyers are not as stout as commercial ones in jukeboxes. Too much pressure or rubbing in a lateral direction will mess up the alignment. An exaterated analogy would be trying to clean a bubble without bursting it. The shack used to have a kit with anti scratch and a cleaning soloution for heads or optics. Any more I carry alcohol swabs Like B-D. It is a box of 100 with individual wrapped pads that are saturated with isopropyl alcohol. I use them to clean lot of stuff.
When a unit hasnt been serviced and i pop the cover I find hairs fuzz balls cig butts paper clips or any other imaginable object. This is the first indication of how long it has been since this unit has been serviced. (believe me it all it takes is laying down a cd and something sticking to it) The first step is cleaning out all this and dust etc The mechanical parts such as gears and the rails that the optics assembly rides on can be cleaned with the swabs. Then a small amount of white grease is applied in a film on all the moving parts that contact each other (including the tray assembly) Also clean anything that the cd touches including the tray. Look for obvious problems worn spots etc.
Now the critical part. Take a swab and gently rub the eye in a circular motion without moving it (much) Get it wet then let it dry.. Then repeat It takes several just dont get impatient!!! The film wiil come off and the glass will shine eventually..
This is for those with the confidence or ability to do it. When I was using cd's I did it once a month during setup.

I posted that. Sometimes I have to restart a disc because the music will start but the words won't. Restart and they pop up. Seems like it misses the graphics info que for some reason. It happened a few times a couple nights ago. Usually one or two times a night. I have gone through several of these machines. The JVCs all do the same thing after a while. These are not professional quality, but I haven't found any yet that can take the punishment we dish out. I would gladly pay top dollar for a heavy duty professional player. My next move is a laptop. I refuse to spend any more hard earned money for unprofessional players. They don't seem to be interested in the thousands upon thousands of professional KJs all over the world. They just want to cater to the home user. I lift my leg on those player companies.
A laptop will never miss a graphics que or skip or glitch. You don't have to polish the hard drive.

Getting the music start and no video effect also periodically. Also skipping of the music and jittey jumbled words.

It's crapping out. They are really junk. I don't even spend the money to fix them. I bought them as throw aways. My laser players cost $400 to fix. I only paid $175 each for these on ebay. I bought 7 of them. I'm using the last one and it's acting a little goofy. Start looking for a replacement quick. Have you used a cleaning disc kit on it? Try one it may help for a while. If the discs are scratched or dirty they act the same way. If you have a different player try the same song on it, if it acts the same it could be the disc.

Anyhow, getting your JVC/RSQ serviced is no big deal. Here's a nice reference site:

Kurt.... I have a new RSQ...... I had a thread on here a while back about just this.
Mine wouldn't read any burned cdg's... same thing, it would play the music- sometimes- but not show the lyrics- other times nothing- other times they would play. Then it just started playing ALL of them fine. (strange...)
Linda at Denny's recently bought an RSQ... and they couldn't play them either. Then, one night, Rich got mine to play... next night, they wouldn't. Go figure.
??????
It's luck of the draw on any given day... But, since mine started reading them, I haven't had much problems with my machine at home now, dunno why... it just started accepting them.
Never had it happen with any but my home burned cd's though.... What did finally work, someone gave me the suggestion to "load tracks" in CDRWin, when I had been loading the "cuesheet"... maybe that made the difference? I'm not smart enough to know....

I refurbish them but their demand is becoming less and less.
Im from the old days if something has a weak feature or doesnt do something I want I modify it.
