Well it arrived by courier today and I am having a little fondle as we speak. A couple of issues with it already, the 5 SCDG discs that arrived all seem to be dk discs (projectile vomits in the corner at the thought) at least one of these discs is labels THM which when I last looked was Top Hits Monthly. So unsure if this is a fiddle by the NZ supplier or if the discs came from US. One already has arrived with a scratch on it. This same disc wont play some of the tracks. My supplier has assured me that anything that has an error will be replaced so I am going thru the discs and testing all 4500 tracks grrrrrrrr
I havent even started on trying to plug in the external harddrive yet

LOL at the DK comment.  See that's where peoples tastes really differ.  Some people hold the DK set as some of the best versions out there, others think they should never have been produced.  Other than the pan flute melody & the occasion wrong key recordings, I think SOME of their songs are pretty good.  Nothing I would puke at, but better than others.

well as to that it is truely plug and play. I have mp3s stored on it so as the setup can be used as an alternative to a jukebox for functions. you have the choice of selecting one song, programming a number or simply having it play the entire folder. I like it. I still havent had the opportunity to play too much with it but will keep you posted as over the next few days I have to write a direction sheet for the staff and for guests who wish to hire it.

quick question though regarding the CAVS USB players... How the heck do you search for a song if you have an external hard drive connected to the USB? assuming you have 5-10,000 songs. Obviously some collections might have subfolders in a subfolder. If you want to sing "Love me tender from" Elvis-soundchoice version, do you have to go figure out what subfolder in SC the "Love me tender"song is in? if so, what a pain. right??
Also, don't these MP3+G files have to be converted to MCG?
Thanks all

My beef has always been why ruin bloody good instrumentation with a stupid melody line? In every other way they are nice sounding discs but no singer that is serious about singing would try using them as backing

it has what they term smart nav. But granted that sounds like it would be difficult. As I have said I am using the USB simply for mp3 jukebox. My brief from the hotel was to create a system that would allow clients to hire it and use it themselves to provide entertainment when they were not intending to go to the expense of hiring a dj or kj or live band. To that end the SCDG discs that came with the player were adequate for our needs. One disc provides 950 songs. I tape up the opening so as the disc doesnt get damaged by removal and voila they can sing to their hearts content for around $100

DKKaraoke and Pioneer were the first companies to do discs, if I'm not mistaken.

I really like the DK collection.    My first choice is always 99% of the time Pioneer, then DK, then Sound Choice, then Music Maestro, then Pop Hits,...... then assorted others.   All Hits, Backstage, Legends, Chartbusters, Sunfly, Dangerous, Star Disc, UK, Pocket Songs, Sweet Georgia Brown.

DK is more than just the pan flute solo.    It has juice harps, cat gut bass, wash boards, spoons, bow saws, combs with a piece of paper, kazoos, knee slapping, arm pit farts, knuckle cracking, log thumping, rock pounding....

You need to get a better musical appreciation for good quality discs.

You assign all the tracks numbers 10,000 songs number them 00001 to 10000 and just type in the number and get the track. Make books with the corresponding numbers thats what I did with my Acesonic Karaoke jukebox with the 325 gig hard drive. Simple.
