Don't you have an outboard comp unit? they can be use. But for recording, a comp along the signal path is NOT a necessity; many people avoid it. The comp is used, if it is use, during the mixing stage. remember once you compress you can't undo it.

Yeah you generally don't want to record compressed however if you are going digital, you do want a limiter which the MP Studio does have. Overdriving analog - good, overdriving digital - bad!
