gigmaster goes for 400-600$
Numark goes for 300-400$

I haven't used it but my opinion on it is I wouldn't use it.  First off it's not a very good mixer for karaoke use - geared more for dj, second & main is you are putting all your eggs in one basket.  If something goes down on it, you're screwed.

putting all your eggs in one basket?  I don't understand.  I figure any system you use will do that if it goes down.  Can you explain what you mean?  Sorry, newbie here!

You have your mixer AND cd player built into one.  If you player goes down - you're done, if your mixer goes down - your done.  Unless you have backup components.  Like in a component system (I run 2 separate players anyway) if a player goes down, I can still go.  If the mixer goes down, I can still rewire to get through the remainder of the night using the players built in mic input, no it won't sound as good, but it would get me through.

But like I stated before - for me, the mixer portion alone is not a very good mixer for karaoke.  The mic channels ONLY have a tone control.  No individual high, mid, low eq (minimum - a swept mid would be even better).  The effects is a cheesy 'karaoke' delay that you can turn on/off & add how much.  No adjustment to the delay time or length.  No real reverb effect nor can an outboard effect processor be added.  This is really nothing more than a dj board that can play cdg's.

I'm gettiing it now.  Is there anywhere I can go and read about all this stuff so I can be a little more informed?  If you know a good website, besides combing thru this forum, which is invaluable in itself, or even a book I could order off amazon.

Are you a DJ and a KJ?  Maybe it would be cool if this mixer was just a good mixer and a backup karaoke machine.  then you could have a better karaoke machine and it could be your backup maybe?  but if this thing also sucks as a mixer, than I will just stay away from it.  thanks mucho for your help - jim  :)

I've been kj'ing since '91.  Running sound for bands & recording studios since '86.  I have dj'd several times within those times, although I never was a 'dj'.

You can always just ask questions, you will get varying different answers often but most of the time it will help your decision.  As far as a backup system, yes it may be a decent back up, I wouldn't use it as a main system by any means.  Like I said the only thing good about the mixer is it's designed for dj.  The karaoke features seem like they were just added in at the last minute.
